Christmas decorating is one of my favorite things to do. Here in Arizona, trees can dry out quickly, so we throw ours in the pool (yes you read that right!) and let it soak for a day. As the tree is soaking, I get out all our Christmas decor and start decorating the house and the next day, the kids help decorate the tree!
Our Christmas decor has been collected, passed down and purchased over the years. We have never had too much of it, but the pieces we had were very special. Last year, we had a little mouse that decided to make a nest in our Christmas box that was left open. Almost everything was ruined and we had to toss it. Vintage stockings, grandmas decor handed down, kids artwork I had saved… all gone! I’m not going to lie, I cried a bit, ok a lot!
So this year, after just moving, I didn’t have the time or energy to source all the amazing vintage pieces that were lost, so I headed to Target and stocked up on decor basics and we will start collecting again for next year. This post isn’t sponsored by Target, but it totally should be! Target, I’m ready when you are!
This year looks a little different, however, I wasn’t going to let that stop me! I decided to do fun and bright kid-centered Christmas decor for the first time, and I’m really loving it!
The tree ornaments were a lucky find from our vendor Rusty Saturday at our Holiday Market last month. (find similar HERE) I love the signs of wear and oh, would I love to see where these beauties have been! We kept the tree simple with just lights and bulbs. There is nothing better than the glow of Christmas lights on the tree.
This game board was actually my dad’s when he was a kid. It’s the perfect colors and size for over our family piano -that was also my dad’s as a kid! (find similar game board HERE) And this cute vintage Santa was a family friend’s that was gifted to my mom before she passed. I love how cute and playful he is!
This giant wreath is simple while making a statement on the fireplace hood.

I’m slightly obsessed with this Advent Calendar from our vendor Coley Kuyper Art!
Our table is very simple this year, as I leave this table set up for the holiday season. I will add to it for the actual Christmas dinner, but for now i enjoy a simple set up to avoid it looking to cluttery in the room. A little garland from Trader Joes, my vintage candlesticks and vintage gold silverware. We even set up a cute little hot cocoa bar for the kids on the buffet!
Have I mentioned I hate bookshelves?! Just kidding, I really don’t, but I have never had this many shelves and so I don’t have enough knick-knacks to style them the way I wanted. So, I kept it simple with what I had with a few fun Christmas items thrown in.
I know people on the internet like to pretend that we don’t actually own TVs in our homes, but, surprise, we have one! And I assume you also have one. Decorating around the tv can be tricky, so I just added a garland, this amazing lucite nativity scene by Sonora Handmade, and little ceramic houses to add a touch of whimsey and playful Christmas decor.
