First, i just have to put this out there – I feel pretty stupid writing this post. Trust me, no one I know is asking me for beauty tips! But I got so many complements on my hair at the market that I decided to embarrass myself and show everyone just how crazy simple the whole “do” really is to “do.” Now you know. I did not spend more than 5 minutes to accomplish this!
In my before-I-was-a-mama life, I was an athletic trainer, and had a daily uniform of khakis, a polo and a ponytail. And sometimes chapstick if I was feeling festive. Nothing fancy. But as I have gotten a little older, I feel a need to fluff myself up a little more on those days when people may actually see me, so I’ve started trying to do something (anything!) with my hair. I HATE blowdrying and I wash this insane mop every day so anything I do has to be able to be done totally wet. I think it’s easier to do this twistie thingie when my hair is wet, but you can do it dry too. All you really need is a hair tie, and a claw clip (or an extra pair of hands). Here we go, step by step!
Step 1 – part your hair where you would usually part it. I don’t really worry too much about this step, I just let my hair fall where it usually does and start.
Step 2 – take one side and separate two pieces from the front. If you’ve ever french braided, this will be super easy from here on out.
Step 3 – twist the bottom piece of hair up and over the top piece. Grab a piece from the hair that’s still down and put it in with the piece that’s now on the bottom, just like a french braid, but with two pieces instead of three. Keep twisting and adding hair. i think the trick is to keep the two pieces distinct from each other.
Step 4 – When you reach the end, or when you’re done with that half of your hair, give it a few more twists, and then put it up and anchor it with the claw clip. or say sweetly while batting your eyes, “Honey, could you please come hold this for me?”
Step 5 – repeat with the other side
Step 6 – CAREFULLY take the claw clip out (or say in your sappiest voice “Thank you so much, darling. You have helped me so much!”) and gather the two twists at the nape of your neck. Secure them with the hair tie. if you want to be really fancy, take a piece of hair and wrap it around to hide the hair tie. I’m too lazy for that.
There’s also a little bonus to doing this with your hair wet. If you sleep on it, you get these nice waves on the morning!
Done. Less than 5 minutes, baby! Slap on some chapstick and you’re ready to go.
