Lunchtime around here can be, well, chaotic. We “do school” for most of the morning, so sometimes getting lunch on the table on time is challenging. By noon, the Little Bee’s brain is sort of fried, the Baby Bee is desperate for some Mama time, and Mama is just happy if I am wearing deodorant. (Holla if you know what I mean!) On a day when we all just need some sit down time, this meal is a trick I have pulled out more than once. Playing with their food not only helps them settle a little bit, and buy you a few quiet minutes, but “playing” with their food helps kids develop a healthy attitude about eating. You probably have everything you need at home –
Bread
Milk
Food coloring
Paint brushes
Butter
Cheese
A little note – I know a lot of kids have sensitivities to food coloring, and there are a lot of natural alternatives. If your kiddo has a sensitivity, obviously, don’t use a chemical food coloring!
Throw in some apple slices and you’re all set! You get a healthy delicious meal for your kiddos, and they get a little fun in the process.
Happy painting…and eating!
