If you were to walk into my living room, you would not find a treasure trove of vintage goodies. In fact, my living room is much more IKEA than Vintage Market. But I do have one item that would qualify as “market worthy.” I affectionately call it the Faerie Tree.
I made this project in the very very early days of the Junk in the Trunk Vintage Market, for their very first Pinterest challenge. I don’t even think I was on Pinterest at the time! But I saw this picture in a West Elm catalog and had to make something like it. As for the challenge, I lost out to a lady who, like, painted a whole wall with chevron. Go figure. The original had a slightly different shape and color, but the same basic concept – a tree made out of old book pages. Drool, drool….
If you know me, you are aware of the fact that I am a big, huge, enormous book nerd. Both the Little Bee and The Baby Bee are named for women in books. The Little Bee is named for a character in The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spencer. My best friend and I sort of had a race to see who could have a daughter first just to be able to name her Charissa. Obviously, I won that one! Anyhoo, I happened to have an “almost” antique book of Spencer poetry. It was damaged, and had a bunch of writing, so I know it wasn’t worth anything, so I decided to turn it into a work of art that I could enjoy every day rather than just something to sit on a shelf.
I love the fact that my little sweetie’s name is hidden in the words on the wall, and she asks all the time for me to point it out! Can you see it?
Even though my living room in much more “minimalist” than “market,” having a personal touch makes it so much more cozy and inviting for my family. What’s your favorite thing in your living room? Share with us on Instagram or in the comments below. Lets inspire each other!
