Seriously, I think it should be illegal to have Thanksgiving so late in the month. I STILL feel behind! Can it really be February already? Will I ever stop using the phrase “can it really be (insert month here) already?” Darn you, late Thanksgiving.
Even though I still feel behind, and my January goals did not get completely accomplished (craft closet much?) we are going to move right along into the LOVE month full force. Coley already made a super cute DIY Valentines Garland and today I’m going to show you what the little people have been up to.
If you love crafts that use what we have hanging around the house, you’ll love these little babies. All you need is some heavy cardstock – as in Cheerios boxes – some red or valentine themed paper, and some yarn, lace or other Valentinesy ribbon. You also need a good pair of scissors, some glue and a whole punch.
first, i cut open the cereal boxes, and glued a piece of red paper over the lovely yellow cheerios side of the box. Then I freehanded some hearts on the other side, with smaller hearts on the inside. I am great at freehanding hearts. NOT. Cut them out and cut out the middle. I used an exacto knife to cut out the middle. I love my exacto knife. Tie one end of the yarn to the heart and let the littles start wrapping. The Baby Bee actually had ZERO interest in this project. In an attempt to get her more involved, I punched some holes around the edge of one of the hearts to see if she would lace the yarn through. Nope. That kid has her own agenda. But the Little Bee thought it was great and dove right in! I had originally planned to make these into a mobile and hang it in front of the hearth for our Valentines mantle. But the Little Bee made this and wanted so desperately to give it to her Sparky’s teacher, who just got engaged. “Mommy! This one is Miss Stephanie and this one is Mr. Billy! And they’re GETTING MARRIED!!!!!!” So sweet. So these will be our Valentines gifts, probably accompanied by some yummy Valentines Puppy Chow or popcorn. If you’re nice, maybe you’ll get one!
Happy Wrapping!
