Even small apartment living rooms, or the nook-like places in your home are worth decorating. Choosing your style, picking a theme and complimenting it with different textures, brings the feeling of home to any space, big or small. Here are three things to keep in mind when decorating your space…
Less Is More
Thinking like a minimalist when decorating for the holidays can be a challenge because there are SO many decorations to choose from, but it is important to remind yourself of your small space and that not all the decorations will fit. Maximizing corners and wall spaces develops a sense that the space is open and decluttered rather than keeping the decorations centralized in the middle of the room. I used wreaths from Hobby Lobby to fill the large wall and simple stockings to compliment the red in them on the mirroring wall, along with my tree in the corner to balance the greenery. Using the perimeter of the room for larger decor introduces a simple yet clean look to filling your space.
Focus On The Detail
Be intentional with every detail so that everything pairs well together. In a small space you can go crazy with detailing, because it implements small touches to the ordinary decor without taking up a large amount of space. I chose pair pine cones, cranberries and gold as three elements to integrate into my place settings, wreaths, garland and tree. Another avenue of detail is utilizing different types of greenery to add texture to your space. Incorporating just a few of these simple yet distinct things, creates an aesthetic look to your holiday decorations.
Make It Personal
Above all else, personalize your decor. Keeping some of your everyday decorations while adding Christmas decor on top brings the sense that this is your space, complimenting your style. Creating table settings is a unique touch that utilizes your everyday essentials and is filled with detail. I chose to lay lit garland with accent trees, candles and a centerpiece of pine cones and cranberry stems to integrate the details in the decor around the room while creating place settings that were different and unique. Everyone has there own style and eye for decor which should be reflected in the spaces around us!
