When it comes to plant shelves I have to say up front they are not my favorite. Some people manage to make them look really nice, but I feel like when I see them my first reaction is “oh joy awkward high space to fill.” It’s a challenge not only to find something to put in that space, but also to make it cohesive with the decor of the rest of your house.
Most common I would say is the use of fake plants, shocker since they are technically “plant shelves.” And then right behind that oversized vases or pots of some kind.
One fairly simple idea could be to use books. This would proably work best on a smaller space. However it could look really nice, if you are able to sort them by color or size, Below is a photo showing books used in a simmilar space.
Now think of that layout with this color design – pretty great right?
The next idea I would throw out is using large pictures/paintings/artwork to fill the space. Art is a great way to add color to the room. The picture below shows pictures displayed on a high shelf, but I think the same look could be managed on a plant shelf.
For a more modern clean look you could go with a simple decal statement. It gives a very nice uncluttered look while still appearing to fill the space.
Finally I would say use the space to display your collections. Those globes, crates, bottles, and baskets you have been collecting from all the Junk In the Trunk Vintage Markets. Here are two exaples.
