Amen, Ryan, amen.
My life changed when I discovered chalkboard paint. I loooooove that stuff. Also on the list of things I love is when my children dress themselves and brush their own teeth and put their dishes in the sink. A mom can dream, right? Combine those two things and what do you get? To make this fun and easy chore chart, you need a cookie sheet, some chalkboard spraypaint, a chalk marker and something fun to use as a border. We used pompoms, because, holy cow, there are a lot of those around here. Other options could be seashells, buttons, or even legos would be super cute. Hmm, I might have to try that!
Spray the cookie sheet with chalkboard paint. Don’t worry about the edges too much because you will be covering it.
I drew in the chore grid before putting the pompoms on. Then the Little Bee and I glued on the pompoms. I used the low heat setting on my glue gun, just in case someone got a little jumpy. Once it was done, I used command strips to hang it on the wall in the kitchen. To mark in when the girls completed their chores (we call them “responsibilities”) I glued a little magnet on the back of a pompom. Good Gracious that child has crazy hair!
While we are definitely not perfect about keeping up with the girls’ “responsibilities,” it’s so helpful to have it all written down. It’s awesome to be able to say “Have you checked your chart?” and they love putting little pompom magnets up when they complete a task.
Don’t forget Lindsey’s adorable mason jar chore system.
