Today I have a fun little project that we worked on this weekend. So it was about that time that we moved Audra to a big girl bed. I had originally wanted to make her a pallet bed, I have seen several different versions on pinterest. But when it came
down to it, I didn’t want her bed to take up that much space in their bedroom. We decided it would be better to figure out something smaller that we could use her crib mattress on instead. So what we came up with was a crate bed. If you were at our last market you saw our wall of crates, well that wall is sitting on the side of my house, so we have quite an abundance at this time. After much measuring and remeasuring we determined that it would take 6 crates to fit under the crib mattress. Well that left quite a bit of extra space all the way around. My husband then cut off the top rung of each of the crates to cut down on the extra width. I didn’t mind the extra length because it just gives her a little extra space to keep her stuffed animals and that lovely giant bear that we carried on our road trip this summer.
This really is so simple, since the girls room has carpet in it, we just set the 6 crates on the ground, 2 across by 3 crates in length. And my favorite part, we set it up so that the opening of the crates was facing out so that it would create extra storage for all their toys. 3 of the crates face the wall, perfect for storage of items that you don’t need to get to right away. Since my girls are close in age and Hadley is quickly catching up to Audra’s size, I was keeping all the boxes of their clothes in the closet, well the crates facing the wall are a perfect fit for those boxes and creates extra space in their closet. And then the 3 facing the rest of the room are perfect for storing toys! Yeah! So really it was that simple.
I think she is quite happy with her new bed, what do you think?
Well it really was that simple. I hope you like it as much as she does.
