This weekend, Coley and her husband and my husband & I all took a little trip up north in search of fall colors. Now I know this sounds completely ridiculous to anyone not living in Phoenix, but I feel quite deprived of fall in general here in Phoenix. So my husband has promised me that every year we are living in Phoenix that we will drive to northern Arizona to find some fall colors. We have found a favorite spot outside of Flagstaff, called Hart’s Praire where we can usually find some beautiful fall colors! And this year it did not fail us . . .
While we were wandering the beautiful countryside it reminded me of this picture on pinterest I had seen . . .
Here in Phoenix there are not many trees around, so we don’t have an abundance of sticks sitting outside waiting to be collected. So Coley and I started collecting sticks so that we could each make our own “thankful tree”, much to our husbands dismay. They still I don’t think quite understand what we were doing, and shook their heads at us all weekend as we tried to fit the sticks in the back of the car.
We did manage to get them all in and safely home without too many getting broken.
And this week I got busy on preparing my “thankful tree”. It is very easy once you find the sticks. I put mine in a white vase that I had. And tried to arrange the sticks as best I could. I think I may need to do a little trimming, because a few of the sticks are quite long.
And then I decided it looked very plain so I grabbed a strip of burlap I had sitting around and a small strip of fabric and tied it around the vase.
And there you have the tree part of the “Thankful Tree”.
I then traced a picture of a leaf from the internet onto some scrapbook paper and cut out lots of little leaves.
Now I just need to find my hole punch, to punch a hole in the top of each leaf (this is how it will be attached to the tree). So now we are ready for Novemeber and the start of using out Thankful Tree. The plan is that each night at dinner, in November, we will each write down one thing that we are thankful for and then attach it to the tree! I am so excited to get it started and to get some leaves on my tree! It will look so much prettier! It was a very easy project and yet it will produce some great family time and memories! So get outside and collect those sticks!
And don’t forget today is the last day to sign up for the GIVEAWAY!!! Let’s send those kids to COLLEGE!!!

My first real Fall living here in Colorado was breathtaking and honestly life changing. I can't imagine not having Fall ever again. And the first project I needed sticks for I went out to "hunt" for them and people thought I was crazy.. They're everywhere! Love that you four adventure out to find whatever you need for homemade goodness!
What a cute idea! xo
