Collections of Masterpieces

We had a busy weekend over here at the Junk in the Trunk headquarters.  Well, we don’t really have headquarters, but it sounds so cool to say that doesn’t it!? Maybe someday… Anyway, Lindsey and I and our wonderful husbands built some fun stuff for the April show this weekend.  OK you caught me again, our husbands did the building and we did the painting, but we were totally working hard I swear!

I have been racking my brain since my son started preschool for a way to organize and display his artwork.  It seems like there is mountains of artwork that comes home everyday and some things are just too cute to throw away.  I purchased these cork squares from amazon, I am sure they are available at any craft store or Walmart.

I wanted to put them in a place the kids saw their special artwork everyday, but I really didn’t want it in the living room.  I want my house kid friendly, but not to look like the kids are taking over.  Anyone with me on this one?

So I decided to put these in the hallway.  It is up right outside their bedroom and we can all enjoy the art throughout the day.

How cute is that little lion?

I actually just ordered one more set of the cork boards so I can have that whole wall covered with their art as they walk down the hall.  I love it and the boys love seeing their art up there!

Painted Mason Jars

This is a fun project that I have been wanting to do for a long time.

What you will need…

Clean Mason Jars

left over paint or sample size of your desired colors

wet paper towels

I started with three clean mason jars

Take your paint and fill the bottom of the jar about a quarter full.  Then tip the jar and roll until it covers the entire inside.

Then tip the jar upside down over the paint can (or a big bowl) and let it drip out spinning the jar as you go so it covers the entire inside.

This is where the wet paper towel comes in.  Just wipe the rim of the jar once you are done.

And there you have it.  Easy project!

I love how they turned out and will make more of these for sure!  They might even be for sale at the market!

Fashion Friday and HUGE News!

I got my “hair did” and it inspired me to try red lipstick. Does that happen to anyone else? I feel like I get transformed into a new person when I get a new hair do.

I am normally a clear lip gloss girl and don’t venture too far out of that box, but I kind of like it for a fun night out! Are you going to give it a try? Post pictures on our FB page!

Are you ready for some news?

We have some HUGE news! We got an intern! We are so excited to introduce you to Chantelle LeFrancois (Isn’t that the coolest name?!) We wanted to let her introduce herself. Here she is!

Hi there! I’m Chantelle and I’m the new Junk in the Trunk intern! I love anything vintage and anything that can be up-cycled into a new creation. It was while I was going to school at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in LA that I found a love for going to flea markets and finding old, good things to incorporate into my every day life. Now that I’m back home in Arizona, I’m thrilled to be a part of the Junk in the Trunk team and to help people score their great, vintage finds!

You guys will LOVE her as much as we do, so when you see her at our next show, give her a good junkin’ welcome!

Wall Quote

wall quote- finished- edited

We have been busy getting ready for the market!  Less than a month to go and so much to do!  While we were in project mode, I decided to put up my wall quote that I ordered from Quote the Walls last week.

It was a pretty easy project, and I think it makes a pretty big impact.

Cancer-free — Third Edition.

Busy weekend

Well, it is only Monday and I need the weekend to be here already.  We had quite a busy weekend around here.  On Friday night we took the boys to the rodeo in Cave Creek and they LOVED it!  Every time a cow got roped, Broden would ask if he was dead and start to cry.  It was so sweet.  He was happy to see that every one of them got up and trotted out the gate.

On Saturday my dad and brother came over and we tackled painting the living room, dining room and hallway in 4 hours!  I had to sit and rest a lot because I was having contractions, but my wonderful hubby, dad and brother were super stars!  It was dark when everything was put back together so I will post pictures another day.

There was one wall I was able to get some pictures of.   This is the entry wall before…

Sexy right?!

Sorry for the crazy light reflecting.  We needed a lamp and I didn’t realize it did that until I uploaded it.  I will post better pictures soon :)

On Sunday after church, my wonderful hubby finished all the trim while the boys slept and I went to a baby shower for Adrianne from Dream Book Design!  I had so much fun praying for her sweet baby boy coming (we are due two weeks apart!) and showering her with love!  I got home and got my painting clothes on and tackled a few things.

This is a vanity a friend of mine bought from me and asked me to paint for her.  I fell in love with it and wish I could keep it!

I also tackled a dining room table and my buffet that my parents gave us.

Sorry for the bad pictures.  It was late and the lighting was awful.

We have dear family friends coming into town this week and we are so excited they will be here celebrating Easter with us.  This is a very special holiday to us and it usually gets skipped over pretty quickly.  We really want to cherish this time as a family and focus on celebrating Jesus.  It is also my husbands birthday coming up soon so we have lots of celebrating to do!

We hope you have a great week and a happy Easter!

Bathroom Update

So as most of you know we have been working non-stop on up-dating our main bathroom.  If you recall the plethora of wallpaper I wrote about here.  Well, we had very little budget to update the bathroom, so it was all hands on deck.  I removed the wall paper on one wall and my dad came over and mudded that wall.  I tried to remove the wall paper on the opposite wall and it was not budging.  So, we just mudded right over it.  It actually was an easy project and the whole bucket of mud only cost $7!  We still have quite a bit left.

Then we added the bead board…

One sheet of bead board cut in half…$20

3 boards cut for wainscoting…$30

This was a fairly easy project too, with my dad’s help of course!  We actually measured correctly the first time and all our cuts fit perfectly!  That has never happened to us!

I went through about 50 colors of grey (who knew there were even that many!)  I got sick of paying for paint samples, so I went to the store, picked one and bought a gallon!  We ended up with Grey Owl by Benjamin Moore and I love it!  I had it mixed into Ace Hardware’s brand of primer/paint in one.  Covered like a dream and looks awesome!

Paint… $20

Bought this awesome shower curtain from West Elm…

$40

Stripe Shower Curtain

My biggest challenge was matching this tile.

It is not my favorite color and I really wanted to do a fun yellow accent, but I knew if I did I would be so antsy to remove the tile (which was not in the budget!)  So I decided to embrace it.

I bought a can of Anne Sloan Chalk Paint and painted the vanity.  I will post details about that next week :)

Chalk Paint…$40

And now for the dramatic update… Drum Roll please….

Before

B

(Sorry, this was the only before picture I could find.)

After

It is very hard to take pictures in the bathroom.  You can’t see the wall color very well, but trust me, it is beautiful!  The total reno cost $157!  Not to shabby for a big transformation!

So, what do you think?  We love it and we love the fact that it is DONE!  The main stuff anyways.  Now is the fun part and I get to add the fun decorative stuff.  I will show you when I get it decorated.

Check back next week for details on painting with the Anne Sloan Chalk Paint and hopefully decorations for the bathroom!

Have a great week!
