Glittered Old Pictures

I have had lots of questions about my glittered picture ornaments.  We used them on our Photo Booth tree, and I now have them on my tree at home.  What you will need…

*Old pictures ~ I bought a huge box of them for $5 at an auction, but you can get them at any antique store for $.50-$1.00 each.

*Glitter ~ I use German Glass Glitter, but any will do.  Martha Stewart has some great glitter in fun colors

*Glue

*Small paint brush

Just paint glue on the edges of the pictures and sprinkle glitter.

It’s a big bang for little buck.  Fun and easy!

Here is some of my decoration I have gotten up so far.  I have more I want to put up, but Christmas came fast this year.  Anyone else feel like that too?

I love this vintage looking iron stand that I am using as a card holder.  It doesn’t fit them all unfortunately, but I love it anyway!

I have been practicing my chalk hand writing and design, it’s not perfect, but I am getting better I think.

Are you in the Holiday spirit yet?  I am getting there, just trying to focus on the reason for the season.  If you are looking for a great way to talk to your kids about the real reason for Christmas, Jessie Tree is a great program.  We are using Jesus Calling Bible Storybook to read the scripture and our boys love to listen to it every night.

Christmas Tree

If you follow me on Instagram you know that I got my Christmas tree this last weekend, and greatly enjoyed decorating it. This was my first all by myself tree, which might sound strange but was strangely exciting to me because I could decorat

e exactly how I wanted.

Although I did have two little helpers……but I may or may not have done some ornament rearranging after they left.

Now the fun part. I went with a mostly vintage vibe with my tree. I had quite a few classic vintage ball ornagments 24 pink from my mom and 18 silver that I got half off after last Christmas at the Goodwill. I found a fun set of vintage looking oraments for $5 at Target that I used to supliment and add a bit more color. Then I topped it all off with this great tree topper. That is not only awesome but it reminds me of my Grandma and her Christmas tree. Tinsel is making a comeback I tell you.

Oh and of course I have my two new ornaments from my summer travels…..see if you can spot them. On with the Eiffel tower on it that says “I was in Paris” and a red double decker bus from good ol London.

The Pallet Wood Advent Calendar

cialis in uk

&description=Pallet%20Wood%20Advent%20Calendar”>
Today I’m going to start with a funny little story. On Sunday Coley & I were at a Christmas party chatting and she started to tell me how she was so excited because she had this great project she’d been working on. So I asked her what the project was . . . and it turns out we were working on the SAME project! Great minds think alike I guess! Or maybe its just that we spend so much time together that we have begun to think alike. But today I am going to share with you my version of the wood advent tree. What’s really funny about the whole thing, is we had both seen different pictures/blogs that inspired us and secretly saved them on the computer and not told anyone what we were doing. Oh well.

All that to say today I am sharing a Pallet Wood Advent Tree!

For this project you will need . . .

5 pallet boards for the arms of the tree

  • 11 inches long
  • 14 inches long
  • 17 inches long
  • 19 inches long
  • 21 inches long

1×4 at least 36 inches tall, this is for the trunk of the tree

2 2×4′s cut at 8 inches long a piece

25 clothespins

wood glue

Optional: paint, stain, paint brush, fabric/burlap, twine, paper bags or ornaments

If you are planning on painting your advent calendar, I would recommend painting it now before putting it together. I forgot and instead got it all glued together before painting it, and it I think it ended up taking a lot more time and effort. So if you want to paint and distress your wood, I would do it now. Once your pieces are all ready, its really as simple as laying it all out and using your wood glue to attach all the pieces together.

For the base glue your 2 2×4′s on either side of the bottom of the tree. So make sure when you are spacing out your branches that you leave enough room for the base.

Once all the glue is dry, you can set the base in the center of a piece of fabric or burlap, then gather it upward toward the top of the tree.
I then wrapped some twine around the fabric covered base several times and tied a little knot. This portion of the base will show a little bit, but not enough that it has to be perfect.

I then tucked all the ends of the fabric into the empty space between the two 2×4′s that make up the base.

All finished. The top doesn’t have to be perfect because the top portion will be covered by the bags hanging on the clothespins.

So here she is. Our advent tree in all her beauty. Just kidding. It serves its purpose well.

As you can see I did a light distressing after I painted the wood white. You definitely don’t have to do it, I just liked the look of it.

And then you can add all your little bags. I just used little paper bags that I bought at Michaels for a couple bucks. I of course then had to add a little decorative fun to them. And then you can fill the bags full of little treats or Bible verses, or you can join us in the Advent Jesse’s Tree. My kids have been enjoying opening each of the little bags each night and finding a special ornament inside. This time of year is really hard to keep kids focused on the real reason for the season, the birth of Christ. Jesse’s Tree is a great way to get the kids excited about reading the Bible and to keep them focused on Christ amongst all the santas and presents.

Well there you have it, my version of the Wooden Advent Calendar. What do you think? Do you have your own version of an Advent calendar? We would love to see it, share the link with us in the comments section.

Wooden Tree Advent Calendar

Happy Monday!  I have been wanted to make an advent calendar for a few years now, but always think about it way to late and I never get it done.  So this year I was determined to get it done.

My dad has a lot of extra wood in his garage so

viagra for sale

I headed over and he said he would help!  Aren’t dads the best?

Here is what you need.

1. Pencil

2. Measuring Tape

3. Circular Saw

4. Stand thingy (so technical I know!)

5. Wood (I chose 1X4s)

Decide how tall you want your tree and then how long you want your branches then measure them out and cut.

Lay out your tree and place two screws on each branch; one just on either side of the middle point.

I wanted a white tree with cute burlap bags, that way I could use it all year around for different purposes.  So I painted it white and painted 24 small clothes pins white also.

I purchased small burlap bags from a wholesale place, I can’t remember where sorry!  I just googled wholesale small burlap bags.

I have this vintage stamp set but I ran out of black ink, so I just used black paint to stamp the numbers on.

Here she is!

I am heading to the dollar section at Target to fill them up!  I am thinking of putting scripture in each day that we can talk about and a little treat for each of the boys.  I am excited to start this tradition!

great expectations

Do you guys ever have just wonderful thoughts of projects and craftiness that don’t work out? It happens to me all the time. Projects end up being way more difficult that they looked online…….or I am super slow so they take longer than I thoug

ht……or they just plain don’t look good. Such is the life I guess.

Two weekends ago I didn’t really have any plans so I thought to myself “Mandy what should you do with all this free time?” You know what I decided to do? Make a quilt. Yup that’s right. Not the least bit ambitious. So after work Friday night I headed off to the fabric store to pick up these gems.

When I got home I didn’t dilly dally. I made some dinner, pulled up Alias on Netflix and got to cutting. 2.5 episodes later I had it all cut and ready to go. WOWSA! At this point I was feeling pretty darn good about myself and my quilting skills.

When Saturday rolled around a I ended up being out most of the day – BUT have no fear I got all the pieces laied out, exactly how I wanted it. And I even got the bias tape made up for the edging. I knew really I should have gotten more done but hey I still had all day Sunday right?

Oh silly silly me. I worked and worked and worked on Sunday and still she was not finished. I guess making a full sized quilt takes a heck of a lot more time than I had origianlly anticipated. There were some minor complications like the fact that my sewing machine stopped working, or that whole work + etsy store + church + social life = busy came into play a little bit too. But you know going from expecting something to be a one weekend project to 2.5 weeks later and still not finished is a bit rough.

My expectations were a tad bit unrealistic I realize now. But here I am with my post – becuase you know last week I planned to do a post about the quilt , of course at that time I still thought it would be finished by now and this would have been a hey look what cool crafty thing I made, instead of the hey look how lame I am that I thought I could do this WAY faster than my skill level – oh right I am SO not as cool as I thought. Thank you quilt for the reality check haha. So I shall leave you with this – a photo of her in her current non finished state.

Over half of the quilting stiches are finished, which is good, but yeah then we have that whole binding thing to do. Have no fear I will get you a finished product photo when that day comes. But let’s just say don’t hold your breath it may be a few more weeks.
