DIY Felt Garland

After taking down all of my Valentine’s Day decor I felt like my apartment was looking a bit sad. Defiantly lacking in some color. That was all the motivation I needed to hit up the closet full off sewing stuff and get to crackalackin. A half hour, one episode of The Big Bang theory and a bunch of felt later this is what I came up with.

Step 1: Gather your supplies, felt, scisors a marker and a circle to trace. I used three different shades of green felt, because I had them all, but you could use any color and make a more versitile garland. I tested out a couple different objects before I found the right size circle, and eneded up tracing a spice jar.

Step 2 & 3: Trace your circles and then cut them out. By far the most tedious of the steps. And mine are not perfect circles by any means, but thankfully it doesn’t really matter.

Step 4: Fold the circles in half.

Step 5: Sew them together, hang it up and enjoy!!

Dining Room Before and During…

Yes, there is another project not quite done, but I had to show you our progress so far!  Here is our dining room before we moved in.

Do you recognize the table?

I laid out my frames on the floor, but wasn’t exact because I wanted to go for the more random look.

Of corse as I put them up the layout changes a lot!

Do you like the strapping young man in the big gold frame?  I found him at a garage sale and knew he would fit right in with our family!

Don’t mind the dropcloth under the table :)   Told you I still have a lot of work to do in here!

Happy Hump Day!

Lamp Upgrade

I have been a busy little bee over here and wanted to share a fun little project I just finished!  When we got our new house, the owners left a lot of furniture here that we ended up buying from them.  Among them were these hideous lamps.

Because our budget is tight, I decided to embrace their ugliness and try my best to make them cute.  I headed to Howard’s Ace Hardware (if you are near Indian School and 32nd st I highly recomend them!) to find some spray paint.  I deciede to go bold and do a bright lacquar yellow.

After a few coats of paint, heres how it turned out…

It is brighter in person.  Sorry for the bad iphone pic!  Now I need to figure out what to do with the shades.  They are looking pretty dingy now with the bright paint!  Any ideas?

Clipboard Wall

***Hey all it’s Mandy again, just stoppin over for a quick little Thursday project***

Anyone who follows me on pinterest knows that I love me a good clipboard wall [this is what I named them...do if you don't know what I mean it's ok]. I’ve known for a while that this was something I wanted in my studio, or spare bedroom, but we all know it sounds so much fancier and official when we call it a studio. I love the look of it, and the idea of storing inspiration and ideas, but I also need something functional for keeping organized with all my Etsy orders. So I used a few ideas I’d seen online and added some ideas of my own to make it just right.

Here are two of my favorites, that I used for my inspiration.

I purchased six basic clipboards from Staples. I think the total cost was about $10. Then I pulled out my trusty chalkboard paint…..because if you haven’t noticed I am kind of obsessed with it. I think I am currently living by the mantra that everything is better with chalkboard paint. So back to the wall. I painted to of the clipboards with chalk board paint, and added cork that I had leftover from this project to two other ones. I didn’t glue it down or anything, just clipped it on so that later I could get rid of it if I decided I no longer wanted it.

Currently I am LOVING how it turned out. The chalkboard is perfect for keeping my running list of pillow orders and the another clipboard to hold all the receipts. It doesn’t get much better than this!
