Fashion/Flashback Friday

Alright, so I know I’m one day late for #tbt (throw back Thursday), but who says I can’t start a new trend with #ff (flashback Friday)?! I love looking back on old photos and reminiscing on all those memories–some awkward, some hilarious, and some just plain weird. And with all this reminiscing comes all those past outfit photos! Now, I haven’t been on this Earth long enough to worry about those awful 80′s trends (PTL!), but I must say the 90′s weren’t so hot either. Here are some of my past outfits (many of them are selfies; I apologize in advance)…some good, and some not so good…enjoy!

Fashion Friday: Summer Essentials

FF_summer copy

With summer just around the corner, (or maybe it’s here already with those triple digit temps–yikes!) it’s time to get my essentials list together. After all, there are a few key players that make for a much less painful AZ summer, and at the end of the day, that’s what we all want, right?

1. Striped Linen Tee @ LOFT

2. Statement Bangle: Unfurling Flower Cuff @ Anthropologie

3. Vibrant Colored Shorts: 3″ seersucker short @ J. Crew (& on sale!)

4. Strappy Summer Sandal: Steve Madden Succo Gladiator @ DSW

5. A Refreshing Beverage ( my fave: Green Arnie @ True Food Kitchen): Otis 19oz Highball Glass available @ Crate & Barrel

Do any of you have some amazing summer plans to beat the heat? I’d love to hear where you’re headed off to so I can be jealous! Does your summer essentials list include any of the things on mine? Comment below and let me know!

Happy Friday!

DIY Four Strand Braid Headband

IMG_3441Remember way back when like two months ago I showed you how to make a fun nautical inspired knotted headband out of a T shirt? Well here is another fun one, that you can make out of the scraps of shirt you had left over. And even though it may be hard to imagine this one is easier, but just as fun.
One
1. Cut the bottom of the shirt into half inc to one inch strips (depending on how wide you want your braid to be. You will need four strips.
Two
2. Once you have your strips cut, cut one side of them, so they are no longer a loop, and stretch them out. By giving them a good tug, the t shirt material will stretch out and make a nice t shirt yarn.
Three
3. Take one end of the four pieces and tie them in a knot. Be careful not to make it too tight, as you will be taking it out later. Once knotted, braid the length of your “yarn.” You can use three and do a normal braid, but to make it wider and give it a bit more detail you can use a four strand braid.
Four
4. After you have finished the braid, it’s time to finish it off. Undo the knot from the beginning and wrap the braid around your head. When you have it at the desired length and tightness tie it off into a tight knot. I personally like the look of the fringe pieces hanging off, so I trimmed them to an even length. But you can just as easily pull the knot very tight, and cut off all the extra yarn.
Five
5. Another way to add fun variety is by mixing materials. In this braid I used two different shirts. Two strands in a neutral grey and two strands in a fluorescent yellow.

Fashion Friday: Graphic Tees

Tee: Nordstrom Skirt: Francesca’s Flats: Sundance Jacket: Nordstrom

(I really need to stop shopping at work…could you tell?)

I’m usually not one to go for graphic tees. I’m not sure why, but I know in middle school and high school I would have told you very differently! (I was all about Abercrombie and Hollister; now I can’t even walk by without holding my breath! Smell it from a mile away!) Just recently there has been a revival for a liking (not ready to say “love” just yet) of graphic tees in my wardrobe–I think they can be kinda fun! Throw one on with a feminine lace skirt for a different twist, or with your favorite pair of jeans!

I’m also loving my floral flats! My favorite spring/summer shoe by far! Now I’m on the hunt for some fun strappy sandals…

Happy Friday!!

Fashion Friday

Top: Vince Jeans: Vince Necklace: J. Crew Shoes: Dolce Vita for Target Watch: Brass Plum Nordstrom Rings: Ariella Collection

Lately I’ve been on a crazy color kick to celebrate the spring season, which usually involves some sort of colored denim, bright jewelry, and candy colored flats. But, today I’ve decided to forego the brights and just keep it neutral. There’s something I love about being able to throw on a black pair of jeans and pair anything with them.

How about you guys? Do you prefer color or neutrals?

Happy Friday & have a great weekend!

Fashion Friday: Inspired

I don’t know what I did before Pinterest. Seriously, where did I get any inspiration from?! I mean, I’ve always been inspired by nature, vintage items, and contemporary design, but Pinterest is a huge, collaborative board on any topic you could imagine from all over the world! It’s amazing that you could spend hours looking at millions of pictures on the computer (so essentially, doing nothing…), but walk away feeling so inspired and ready to take on those 20 craft projects that you pinned.

In this edition of FF, I am going to show you some of my favorite outfits from my “fashionista” board on Pinterest. They all vary in style–some boho, some edgy, but I hope they inspire you to take chances with your wardrobe & go outside your norm.

Happy Friday!

Fashion Friday: Spring In Full Swing

Easter is almost here!! I absolutely love this meaningful time of year, and I love that the weather is getting a little warmer. I’m just praying that it doesn’t get too hot too soon! Last week I showed you some of my spring “must-haves”, and this week I’m going to show you how I incorporate them into my wardrobe. Well, I’m actually going to show you how to style the same top in 3 different ways. (Side note: I recommend not doing this 3 days in a row…but I’m sure you knew that already ha!)

Pink has always been one of my favorite colors, even though I don’t actually wear it often. But, I figured this silk, Topshop tank was versatile enough to mix and match with different looks. Here’s my take on it…

The Weekender

pink_mint

I paired these mint bermuda shorts with a linen blazer, and of course, my favorite worn-in J. Crew sandals.

Sunday Brunch

pink_cardi

The pop of pink helps to brighten up my white denim, while the grey cardigan keeps it sleek and simple. Throw in some fun wedges and you’re good to go!

Girl’s Day Out

pink_skirt

I love the lace skirt to play up the textures in this outfit. Layer up on the necklaces and you are ready for a fun day in the sun.

And as always, have fun with your styling! Don’t be afraid to play with color or patterns, and let your own personality shine through! Hope you all have a fabulous weekend.

Happy Good Friday! (kind of an odd thing to say, since it’s so bittersweet…but you get what I mean!)

How She Wears It: Black & White

Trending now…the best neutrals you could ever pop some color with: black and white! It’s huge this spring, and coming in all sorts of fun patterns, textures, and styles. Here are just some of our favorite ways to wear it, and I’ll show you some of my favorite black and white inspirations!

Karie

Loving the tribal-esque wrap sweater!

Hellooooo summer!

Beth

“So…here is my real life! I can’t find my tripod, my children are crazy, the mirror is disgusting (and has a random Nemo sticker on it) and I can’t decide which necklace I like better. But I am wearing black and white. Boom!”

Chantelle

So unfortunately, I don’t have my own photo due to me living out of a suitcase this week and moving around from house to house (our house is currently being remodeled), but I will show you some of my favorite black and white looks!

No link for this but I think it’s super cute!

Happy Sunday everyone!

Fashion Friday: Spring Faves

As the weather keeps getting warmer and warmer, my mind keeps drifting towards thoughts of the sand, sunshine, and summertime. I love this time of year, when spring colors are in full bloom (not necessarily in our desert landscape, but in clothing, of course!) and boring winter neutrals are done and over with! The clothing for spring and summer is just so much more fun and vibrant, and I love playing around with different patterns and colors. I created a little spring fashion trend board to show you all of my favorite must-haves for the season. I’m still working on some of these myself, but hey, the first day of spring was technically just a few days ago, so I think we are allowed some time to get with the program!

a knotted headband

If you follow me on Instagram you got a sneak peak of this project. Over the weekend I worked on a few headband tutorials for you all. I was able to create these beauties with some shirts out of my goodwill pile. Today for you I have the how to for the knotted girl there in the middle. Pleasantly nautical right? I was also thinking it would look great made out of a thick rope or cording. Maybe someday I will try.

photo-6

First you are going to start by cutting six half inch strips from your t shirt. After cutting them, give them a good tug, stretch them out – making it into T shirt yarn. Then you will divide them into two groups of three strands.

One

Next you are going to place the first group in this ribbon formation. These two ends will now be known as A and B.
two
Now you are going to take your second group of yarn and place it on top of the first grouping, in a smily face formation. These ends will now be known as 1 and 2.
three
Now take end 2 and place it under end B
four
Next take end 1 and place it under the loop, so that you see it down the middle.
Five
Take end 2 and place it over the first part of the loop, under end 1 and then back out over the back part of the loop.
 Six
And, you are almost done, gently pull all four ends, you will begin to see the knot form. Pull it as tightly as you want, the tighter you go the smaller the knot becomes. You can finish it off with a small knot on the back that holds all the strands together, and hides nicely under your hair.
EightPretty great right? Come back next week for the next headband tutorial. And if you make one up, let us see it #jittheadbands on instagram!!
