A Kitchen Table Redo

IMG_2381
Today I have a fun table redo for you.  I had been on the lookout for a smaller table for our kitchen.  Kevin had made that wonderful farmhouse table for us, but it was a little large for our kitchen area, so we decided to find something smaller and move the farmhouse table to the formal dining area.  It will go perfect there under the industrial light that my dad made for us.  So I found this table on craigslist for $30! And was quite excited to get to work on it.  Here is what it looked like before we got started.
A lovely light wood color.  Kevin then sanded down the top, because we decided to stain just the top.  And as the for the legs I painted and then distressed them.
\The sand job half way through.
I then got busy painting the legs and underside a mustard yellow.

Once the paint had dried over night, with my trusty sandpaper lightly distressed the legs.  The legs of this table have lots of fun details, so I took advantage.  After sanding I wiped it down with a damp cloth and then got ready to stain.  I used some remaining Minwax Dark Walnut stain we had left over from the farmhouse table and began by brushing on a thin layer over one leg of the table.  After brushing completely covering the leg I then took a clean rag (or an old tshirt works well) and wipe off the stain.  You can wipe off as little or as much as you want to obtain the look you are desiring.  The longer you leave the stain to sit (without allowing it to dry), the more it will take to the areas you sanded.  Does that make sense?
After allowing the legs to dry overnight, we then could get started on the table top.  Kevin got busy staining the top, using the same stain (Minwax Dark Walnut), and then finished it off with several layers of polyurethane.
And once I get it in the house I will show you the finished product in all its beauty.
