A Coffee Table

Today I have a fun little project for you.  I found this great tourquoise coffee table and distressed the legs.  My husband actually had the idea to make the top into a chalkboard.  A great activity table for kids or just a fun coffee table.  So I taped off the edges and used a chalkboard spray paint and got busy.

And here she is in all her glory!

What do you think?  Kind of a fun project.  It will be for sale this weekend at the Junkrestore Vintage Market.  On Friday & Saturday the Junk in the Trunk Trio will have a booth out at this market.  If you get a chance we would love to see you all this weekend.  648 E. Lehi Rd, Mesa, AZ from 10am -4pm.

Pass It Forward

Today we are joining with our friend Ashley over at the Shine Project to help her launch PASS IT FORWARD!!!  Basically to spread some SHINE to your community!

Photobucket

Pass It Forward was designed to get people to do little things, everyday, that will make an impact on the community around them.  So here’s the deal, she designed a card that is to be given to someone in your local community as you show them an act of kindness.  Each card is given a unique ID number, so that when someone receives this card they can log into the website using that card to see where the card has traveled and how it has blessed other people along the way.  The back of the card looks like this . . .

Lets say we’re at McDonalds, and I decide to pay for the person behind me in the drive through. I’d give the cashier the card, and tell them to pass it along to the next car when the give them the food that has been paid for. I then go home and log into the website that was on the card, and find my unique ID number. I log into it, and add my information… My first name, city, and a description of what I did….

Let’s say the person behind me was you, you would pass it forward to someone else, and then would go home and do the same thing. From the very beginning, you will be able to track where your card goes, and how many people you affect just by doing one simple act of kindness.

Isn’t that a great idea!  Let’s help Ashley spread the SHINE in our community!  Are you guys brainstorming ideas yet of ways you could be sharing the Pass It Forward cards?!  Next week you will see what each of us Junk in the Trunkers did with our Pass It Forward cards!

And be sure to check out Ashley’s blog for all the info to get your hands on your own Pass It Forward cards so you too can start spreading some SHINE!

Mail Call

Who likes a nice easy five minute project? If the answer is you, prepare yourself, it may very well take you longer to read this post than it took me to finish the whole thing [not including drying time of course]. This is what I like to call a handy dandy mail sorter.

In it’s previous life this was a gold toast holder. I bought it at a thrift store for under a dollar. Of course I forgot to take a before picture because that is what I am good at. So just imagine it was an ugly gold, instead of white. The turquoise was still there, which is what initially caught my eye – I knew it had potential and would match my place perfectly.  All I did was cover the pretty part with painters tape and give it a coat of antique white spray paint and the rest is history.

Now I have a pretty place to store and sort all of my mail. I thought about staging the photo and putting some pretty mail in there, to make it look all fancy for you all. But then reality set in, I don’t really get pretty mail, does anyone? Only bills…bills, bills [now that I am singing Destiny's Child I leave you until next week].

Dining Room Before and During…

Yes, there is another project not quite done, but I had to show you our progress so far!  Here is our dining room before we moved in.

Do you recognize the table?

I laid out my frames on the floor, but wasn’t exact because I wanted to go for the more random look.

Of corse as I put them up the layout changes a lot!

Do you like the strapping young man in the big gold frame?  I found him at a garage sale and knew he would fit right in with our family!

Don’t mind the dropcloth under the table :)   Told you I still have a lot of work to do in here!

Happy Hump Day!

Dining Table Facelift

It’s Friday!  Yay!  I have actually thought it was Friday for the last three days, so I am glad it is actually here now.  ha!  The work is never done around here so I have another redo for you.  This weekend my hot hubby sanded and prepped this table that we bought with the house.

We had to sell our barn table (which was our first DIY baby and it was sad to say goodbye) because it didn’t fit in our new house, so I was going to redo this one for our new dining room.  But after having it done, it turned out so awesome, I have to sell it.  Oh the life of a furniture dealer!

Lamp Upgrade

I have been a busy little bee over here and wanted to share a fun little project I just finished!  When we got our new house, the owners left a lot of furniture here that we ended up buying from them.  Among them were these hideous lamps.

Because our budget is tight, I decided to embrace their ugliness and try my best to make them cute.  I headed to Howard’s Ace Hardware (if you are near Indian School and 32nd st I highly recomend them!) to find some spray paint.  I deciede to go bold and do a bright lacquar yellow.

After a few coats of paint, heres how it turned out…

It is brighter in person.  Sorry for the bad iphone pic!  Now I need to figure out what to do with the shades.  They are looking pretty dingy now with the bright paint!  Any ideas?

We met, We wed, We had kids!

A while back I saw this idea on Pinterest

and thought it would be a perfect Valentine’s gift for my husband, since we met, we wed and we had kids in 3 different places.  I love projects that have sentimental meaning to it why this was so great.  So I had gathered maps over the year and a frame and then got busy.

I began by using a cookie cutter as a stencil to cut out my hearts from the maps.  I then spray painted a gold frame that I had found a tjmaxx a while back.

I was having a hard time finding paper that would fill the entire space of the frame with out having to use multiple pieces, so I had to figure something else out.  Instead I decided to mod podge old book pages on the frame cardboard and then painted over it (just like the love sign that I showed you last week) with a teal blue this time.  Once the paint dried I measured out where I wanted the hearts and then glued them on.  In the original they then wrote under each map: we met, we wed, we had kids, but I loved the simplicity of it without.  And the bottom line is we know why each of those maps are significant.

I love how it turned out.  It was a perfect Valentine’s gift to remember all the places we have been together.

Did you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day?  How did you celebrate?  Did you make any fun projects?  If you did post them on our facebook page, we would love to see them.
